JUST IN: Donald Trump has sent in the feds to the sanctuary state of California to round up as many illegal aliens as they can.
Last year, California passed legislation declaring itself to be a “sanctuary state,” meaning it would be a safe haven for illegal aliens. However, Donald Trump’s Immigrations and Customs Enforcement Agency just let California know the hard way that this legislation will not stop agents from doing their jobs.
The LA Times reported that ICE agents are currently carrying out an immigration enforcement operation in Los Angeles that has already detained more than 100 people suspected of being in violation of immigration laws. ICE spokeswoman spokeswoman Sarah Rodriguez said that the sweep, which began on Sunday, is focusing on “individuals who pose a threat to national security, public safety and border security.”
“This means that, ideally, we are working with local police and county jails to identify public safety threats in their custody, who are also in the country illegally, for deportation,” Rodriguez said. However, she added that “uncooperative jurisdictions” such as Los Angeles have forced ICE agents to “conduct at-large arrests in the community, putting officers, the general public and the aliens at greater risk, and increasing the incidence of collateral arrests.”
“That is what ICE is now doing in Los Angeles, and what ICE will continue to do in uncooperative jurisdictions,” Rodriguez said.
The Los Angeles Police Department and many other California law enforcement agencies have refused to participate in ICE sweeps such as this one. The LAPD has long had a policy that prevents officers from asking people about their immigration status, which just goes to show the liberal mentality of California.
The current ICE operation is being carried out in the agency’s Los Angeles area of responsibility, which includes Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, Ventura, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties.
It’s sad and pathetic that sanctuary states like California continue to put the wellbeing of illegal aliens ahead of that of real Americans. Instead of protecting illegal immigrants, they should be trying to encourage foreigners to come to the U.S. through legal means.
